For anyone looking to buy one of the best air rifles for the price on the market, the Gamo Hunter Extreme .177 air rifle should definitely be on top of any list that you might have before making your final purchase decision.
As I do with almost anything I buy these days, but especially with a new air rifle, I went online and did a few hours’ worth of research before buying the rifle and I’m glad I did.
While I read good and bad reviews about some of Gamo’s other products, the Hunter Extreme had a lot more good reviews than bad.
I’ve had it for a few months now and I can say without hesitation that this is one of the most accurate and powerful air rifles that I’ve ever owned.
In fact, it’s my favorite and an all-around fantastic weapon. One caveat that anyone who really knows air rifles doesn’t need to be reminded of is that a gun of this caliber (referring to quality, no pun intended) should be used with top-quality pellets from the likes of Beeman or H&N for the best accuracy.
Frankly, the cheap pellets that you will find at Wal-Mart just don’t cut it and if you use those and complain to me about inaccuracy I am just going to blow you off for being a cheapo.
Gamo Hunter Extreme .177 Review
I’m what you would call a “large handed” shooter and what I really like about the Extreme is that the stock is not only nicely finished but very solid and heavy as well as being beautifully finished.
It just feels “right” in my hands if you know what I mean. The action on mine is extremely smooth and, as far as cocking effort is concerned, it’s just about right. (If there were any complaints online they usually were about how hard she is to cock but in my opinion those are inaccurate.)
Accurate And Flat Trajectory
I also like the fact that it was nearly zeroed right out of the box, something that you usually don’t find with any air rifles, even the best quality. She has an accurate and flat trajectory as well and, when used with high-quality pellets, is extremely consistent.
I have found that Barracuda Match pellets are the best for this rifle. That’s no small consideration when you keep in mind that I have tried over two dozen other different types, including Gamo Raptors which I found to be highly inaccurate (horrible actually.)
I’ve tried a number of different scopes on mine, all of which have been better as far as accuracy is concerned then the scope that came with the Hunter Extreme.
I’m not going to name my favorite because it depends on the distance and what I’m actually shooting at, but I can tell you that the scope included is definitely not one of my favorites.
In fact, my only complaint about the Hunter Extreme is that Gamo would make such a high quality, fantastic rifle and put a fair to middling rifle scope on it. To me that just doesn’t make sense.
With that in mind I would say that you shouldn’t let the quality of the scope keep you from purchasing.
I consider it to be one of the best .177 caliber air rifles on the market today.
If you use high-quality pellets and take good care of her I’m sure that the Extreme will also be one of your favorites too, like it is mine.
